Classic Black & White Photographs

Arch Bridge
On my Summer 2019 blog I posted some of my colorfully nostalgic Kodak Ektachrome film images. For my Autumn page I'm featuring 15 of my classic black & white medium format images. I scanned the original negatives and reworked the files representing the latest "performance" (they were previously scanned from prints). Many of these images were made around or before the time when I began digital photography. These latest renderings are of much higher fine print quality. |

Chesapeake Shore

I made this image in a mid-summer upper 90's heat wave on Maryland's western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. I was drawn to the dark colored soil being pulled out of the sand by the forces of erosion and thought it would be a good element with the white foam in the surf. I had to wade out up to my thighs with my tripod to get this composition. The water was full of stinging sea nettles so I brought a stick with me so it could fling them away from my legs as the waves washed them in closer to me. The mosquitoes and bitting flies were pretty bad too in addition to the heat and humidity. |
