"And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe." (Revelation 14:14-18)
"So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:49-50)
What a sobering picture for those who stand in the place of decision.
The world is being ripened for the final harvest of divine judgement, and we are watching it happen with our own eyes. Seeing that the end of this age is so very near, and the return of Christ is so imminent, it is not surprising that things should be allowed to deteriorate so badly and so quickly - for the offence must certainly suit the punishments that have been determined and foretold. If the unbelieving world is nearing the edge of great tribulation, where God's wrath will be measured out, it is fitting that the hearts of men should grow cold toward the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Make the tree good or make it evil! For it is becoming as the days of Noah, when every imagination of the hearts of men was only evil continually, and they were unaware until the flood waters of judgement came and took them all away. History is repeating. The wrath that is coming is well deserved, and in proportionate measure. The patience and forbearance of God has been in place for centuries, and God has extended his goodness to all flesh. For sin, he has given men every opportunity to receive good from his hand. He has freely offered salvation, and mercy, and power from his treasure house of grace. But the world will not have it. Having chosen wrath instead, they have left God no other option. God is righteous in the consequences that must come; even in the final judgements of his wrath, God is holy and just.
"Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say: You are just in these judgments, O Holy One,
you who are and who were; for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets,
and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.” (Revelation 16: 5-6 NIV)
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? (Psalm 2:1) It is astonishing how few there are who find eternal life. In comparison to the masses of humanity that populate the globe, there are so few who come! The words of Christ are true: "For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." (Matthew 7:13-14) Out of the entire sea of humanity, the elect make up a small minority. There is only a remnant that shall be saved. But they that belong to God shall come to Christ, for truth is well able to gather all her children. But in this world, the mystery of iniquity doth already work. In these perilous times, iniquity is abounding and the love of many has waxed cold. The wickedness of man's heart is exceedingly great. Down through the ages this has always been true, but in these last days, it is waxing worse and worse, in terms of it's manifestation. Christian, do not be deceived by the artificially sweetened candy coating of human civility, for it is certain that the world would throw you to the lions in a moment, if in this age it were fashionable to do so! Come out from among them, and do not fellowship with them in their pleasantries.
Even in the "Christian" western world, the vast majority remain either dead to or else hostile to the things of God. They have given God their backs and have loved their own lives and chosen their sin instead. "For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." (2 Timothy 3:2-5) Their sinful condition springs forth from their great sin of unbelief. Jesus will keep you from sin or else sin will keep you from Jesus! Every day the world cries, "we will not have this man to reign over us!" "Away with this man Jesus, and give us Barabbas!" And the scriptures tell us that, every day, God is indignant because of the wicked who make themselves his enemy (Psalm 7:11).
As the world is allowed to ripen for the final harvest of this age, do not remain with those who are without understanding of the times. Waiting in the wings are angels with trumpets and bowls of wrath. To those who have an ear to hear, the call goes out: Come in from the darkness, into the light, and be numbered with the wise; even with the saints of God who walk in his way and delight to do his will. Come as good fruit, as wheat to be gathered into his garner, and to a blessed and eternal habitation. Come to Christ by faith while it is yet day, and escape the wrath that is soon to come.
"He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." (Revelation 22:11-17)
